Manchester United defenders Eric Bailly and Ethan Laird have attracted the interest of several clubs after the arrival of Lisandro Martinez, The Athletic understood.
Watford have opened talks with United over Laird, with a season-long loan being discussed. Laird, who did well on the club’s tour to Thailand and Australia, needs to get regular minutes after a promising time at Swansea City and AFC Bournemouth last season.
It is understood that reigning Serie A champions AC Milan are interested in Bailly, with Jose Mourinho’s Roma also keeping tabs.
United confirmed the arrival of former Ajax centre-back Martinez yesterday, who joined the club for an initial fee of £47million (€55million), plus another £8.5million (€10million) in potential add-ons.
His arrival has demoted Bailly down the pecking order, with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Raphael Varane seen to be better options.
Laird, a 20-year-old product of the club’s youth academy, has spent loan spells at MK Dons, Swansea, and Bournemouth in the last two seasons. Watford remain in the market for a homegrown right-wing back and are considering various options.
United have made three signings so far this summer, with Martinez joined at Old Trafford by attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen and left-back Tyrell Malacia.
The club begins their season against Brighton on August 7.
