Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate will miss the opening weeks of the season with the knee injury he suffered in last Sunday’s friendly defeat to Strasbourg.
The France international limped off early in the second half at Anfield and a scan has since confirmed fears that he is facing a spell on the sidelines.
Joel Matip is seen to partner Virgil van Dijk in Saturday’s Premier League opener against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is well covered at centre-back with Joe Gomez, who signed a new contract this summer, providing another option. Liverpool can also still call upon Nat Phillips, who could leave the club before the end of the transfer window if their £10 million valuation is met.
Writing on Instagram, Konate said: “Unfortunately, I have to spend some time off the pitch but it won’t be too long. In the meantime, I will be doing my best to come back even stronger and supporting the boys.”
