Florida land’s commitment from Top247 CB Ja’Keem Jackson

The Florida Gators landed a big addition to their 2023 recruiting class leading up to their big Friday Night Lights weekend. The latest name to join the fold is Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola four-star cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson. He picked the Gators over other finalists Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Penn State, and Tennessee. He is the third addition to the Gators class thus far at the defensive back position, joining four-stars Sharif Denson spirit Aaron Gates.

The Gators extended an offer to Jackson back in late May and were able to get him on campus a couple of times following the offer. For the Gators, they have had numerous coaches in touch with the talented defender. The thing that has intrigued Jackson the most about the Gators is the chance to learn and be developed under the cornerbacks coach Corey Raymondwho he sees as the top coach at his position in college football.

“You like Coach [Billy] Napier and the coaching staff – Coach [Corey] Raymond and Coach [Patrick] Tony. Especially Coach Raymond. That’s like a goat right there. He’s a really good coach and he’s known for producing first rounders. He also calls me everyday.”

Coach Raymond has an eye for talent, and there are a lot of things he likes about the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder.

“He is a really good coach and he’s produced a lot of cornerbacks into the league like Derek Stingley, Patrick Peterson, Tyrant Mathieu, and some others. I feel like he’s a really good coach. He keeps it real and doesn’t sugarcoat anything. He’s a real genuine dude and I like that about him. They are some new coaches there, but we are getting a connection so far. I just gotta keep going back and keep building a relationship with them. Coach Raymond likes that I am big, physical, and fast. He says I have good ball skills and likes my speed like I said. He said you have good technique. I think my top moment was breaking down film with him from Florida and them giving me some tips to take back and work on myself. They have a good scheme with a lot of plays and I feel like I can fit well in there.”

The Gators’ 2023 class currently sits at 13 verbal commitments to date with the addition of Jackson. Those other names include Tampa (Fla.) Gaither four-star wide receiver Eugene Wilson IIIThomasville (GA) Upson-Lee four-star edge TJ Searcy, Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian four-star running back Treyawn WebbSaint Petersburg (Fla.)
